Where to get help

  • In the United States the first stop is the National Council on Problem Gambling helpline at 1-800-GAMBLER, open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, with trained counsellors and interpreters. State hotlines are listed on ncpgambling.org/help-treatment, and most states run their own publicly funded treatment programmes at no cost. Outside the United States, GamCare serves the United Kingdom and English-speaking readers worldwide at gamcare.org.uk, and the European helpline SOS Joueurs covers French-speaking players. Reach out early — the first phone call is the hardest, and it is also the one that changes most.

Limits and tools

  • CampoBet, like most licensed operators, offers deposit limits, loss limits, session-time limits, and a cooling-off or self-exclusion period in the account settings. Set your weekly deposit cap before your first large session, not after it. If you have already lost more than you planned this month, open the account settings and switch on a self-exclusion of at least thirty days — the operator cannot lift it earlier for you, and that pause is often enough to reset the pattern. Treat these tools as the equivalent of a budget on a credit card: boring, slow, and essential.

Self check quiz

  • If you want a quick self-check before calling a helpline, work through these four questions honestly. Have you deposited more than you planned to in each of the past three sessions on CampoBet or another operator? Have you kept playing to chase a loss, telling yourself the next spin will win it back? Have you hidden the size of a deposit or a withdrawal from a partner, a parent, or a close friend? Have you borrowed money — from a credit card, a payday lender, or a person — to fund play? Two or more yeses is a signal to pause, step back, and call 1-800-GAMBLER.

Signs of problem

  • Problem gambling is rarely about a single big loss. The signals are quieter: a growing need to play with more money to feel the same pull; a shrinking interest in friends, family, work, or sport; restless sleep and irritability on nights without play; small or large lies about where the money went. If a reader of this site sees two or three of these in a close friend, say something kindly, offer the helpline number, and do not shame or lecture. Early conversation changes outcomes more than any editorial page could.
